Norvasc is a medication that blocks calcium channels and is prescribed to manage high blood pressure or angina (chest pain). Lowering high blood pressure is important for preventing strokes, heart attacks, and kidney issues.
The tablets of Norvasc contain the active ingredient Amlodipine Besylate. It functions by obstructing calcium channels in the muscle cells of blood vessels. Norvasc influences the muscle cells in the arterial walls, leading to their relaxation and subsequent widening. This makes it easier for the heart to pump blood and helps lessen its workload.
Norvasc is indicated for the treatment of: high blood pressure (hypertension); a severe type of angina pectoris that is not triggered by physical activity (Prinzmetal's angina); and regular angina pectoris.
